taling chan floating walk 2007

Here is a beautiful sunny day starting. A gentle awakening. Direction the other bank of Bangkok, more precisely towards the Thonburi district. Jitima wanted to take me to the local floating market, there are quite a few in Bangkok given the presence of many klongs, "canals" that used to be streets, back when Bangkok was just a village.

As it expanded, several canals were blocked in favor of long avenues and tarred streets.

But due to the nature of the soil, the city, built on marshy ground, is slowly sinking...

We go there by bus, there were a lot of people once at the market, because it was a Saturday. There is a market like there are many, with flowers, all kinds of food, the usual things, and at the end of this alley where a soft music lulls us, we arrive at a floating restaurant.

As Jitima acknowledges, it is not really a floating market, there is certainly a way to buy food via the boats stationed nearby, but these are more there to directly supply fish for example or even cook directly on their boat.

Sitting on the floor, I enjoy my meal.

undefined
The poor fish will end up skinned...

undefined
At the time of the photo, no one, but in fact quite a few boats with tourists pass here.

undefined
The only farang (I only came across one), a treat!

undefined
What could I possibly take…

The shopping alley leading to the floating restaurant.

After this good meal and having just crossed some boats to take a tour in the klongs, Jitima suggests that I go there, ok why not, it will allow me to see another side of Bangkok, the old Bangkok, more "authentic".

It lasts two hours, well at least it will occupy us for part of our afternoon. We take our tickets and wait for the next departure, in a quarter of an hour.

They feed the fish.

Children play in the water just near the market.

undefined
Quite a deal, really, quite original.

undefined
In full flight!

undefined
Between the road and the railway bridge, the klong is their playground.

undefined
At least they are cooling off, because it is quite hot here!

undefined
Another Bangkok.

undefined
This is the equivalent of a street.

undefined
It looks like it's flooded... in any case I definitely wouldn't want to be an electrician in this country!

undefined
It’s an opportunity to discover new places.

Our group.

undefined
Nice balcony.

undefined
The typical architecture of a temple is clearly recognizable.

undefined
An “orchid farm” where orchids are produced, a very popular flower in Thailand, it is also its symbol (according to Thai Airways)

We just stop, a bit in the middle of nowhere to visit one of these famous orchid farms. The owner proudly shows us around, before offering to refresh ourselves with a coconut, the nut is open and contains milk, very practical if you are stuck on an island, with a coconut tree, it is something to drink and eat!

Finally, I'm a little off topic, apart from the coconut milk heated as in the dishes it's not really to my taste... We quickly go around alone, take a few photos then return to the boat... Which is no longer at the quay!

But he came back very quickly, in fact, he was just on the other bank. We left by a different path in much narrower klongs where 2 boats were just passing each other.

A short series on these beautiful orchids.

The coconut break for a little freshness and the most beautiful flower.

undefined
A medley of orchids.

undefined
Well yes, that's it!

undefined
Um… where is this going?

undefined
Happy faces on the boat!

undefined
I really like this roof structure.

undefined
We are in Bangkok!

undefined
In the small klongs.

undefined
The local “car”.

undefined

undefined
This house seems very pleasant to live in but a little isolated.

undefined

undefined
I really like this photo, tender complicity between a mother and her daughter.

undefined
A little boy.

undefined
You just have to bend down to get fish!

undefined
Hot ahead.

undefined
Back.

Market overview.

undefined

undefined
Here we are again in the urban jungle.

undefined
A deserted street in Bangkok??

undefined
A concert is taking place at the Siam Center (yes, it's written in big letters)

undefined
This is a band I know, it's called Big Ass (don't ask me for the translation!)

undefined
Waiting for the Skytrain.

undefined
A luminous dressing.

undefined
On the way back, we pass the Victory Monument again before taking the van.

We ended the day by going to the cinema (see Alien Vs Predator 2), stopping by a shoe store on the way… Oh, shoes and Jitima… And there, a crush on a pair for 3 baht, a pair is free, of course, it's tempting! We were going to reserve our places first before going back to the store, where she ended up cracking and buying…

Well, it had been a while since she had bought one… And after all, it was her money. Jitima then offered me a little surprise, she said to me “I’m going to open my spa”! I said to myself “well, interesting!”
And then once home Jitima gave me a little Spa session, based on yogurt and honey… yummmm all spread well on the face, afterwards it gives beautiful skin!

A facial treatment session.
