Live from the lounge (I have access thanks to my company's membership card, Etihad) I write the first lines of my adventure to Thailand, which has certainly already started with the previous trips but really starts now because this time there is no return date (for those who have not followed...)

I prefer to go to the airport in advance, and by taxi (given all my luggage), I found out afterwards that there had been a problem with the RER B (as usual…), it would have started badly… I was the first to go through, I was normally entitled to 20 kg + 10 kg because I am a member, I was afraid given the fact that I am “moving” that I would exceed my quota, despite a fairly draconian sorting. I put down the first bag, 20 kg cash, it is not a good idea to make 30 because I know that the 2nd weighs similarly, yet I had weighed them before to have an idea precisely and normally it was about 15 kg each… (weighed in a hurry hence the difference…)

I put the 2nd one down, indeed 20kg again, which brings the total to 40kg, not counting the backpack that will go in the cabin, which in theory should not exceed 12 or 15kg. I hear the girl say to her colleague "it's too much", I have nothing to add in my defense, being the first and perhaps the fact that I am a regular customer means that she didn't tell me anything more, my big backpack itself was not even weighed, phew, I'm reassured because to tell the truth that was what stressed me the most, the idea of being too heavy and having to drop things because I couldn't take them or having to pay I don't know how much.

Comfortably seated waiting to be called for boarding, I write these lines calmly, here is at least a good departure without incident!

PS: I apologize for the accents but this is an American keyboard here……

Hi Romain, I often read your articles which have helped me a lot in my travel preparations. But now I'm lost! When is this article from? How long have you been a long-term expat?
Long and beautiful life to your partner and yourself.
