Family Visit: Royal Pavilion Cave at Sam Roi Yot National Park

(4)

About 60km south of Hua Hin is Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, the name literally translated meaning the hills with 300 peaks, considered the Thai "Guilin", the site is really worth a look. The only drawback, in addition to being paid (200 baht per person) is that it is not necessarily easy to find your way around what to see there, ideally as was the case the first time I came, we had a booklet from the hotel which had helped a lot. This time, I had nothing but my memories... I will miss the lake (artificial by the way) covered in lotus flowers at the foot of one of these majestic rocky mountains. Especially since they were normally in bloom (unlike the time before...).

The cave at the royal pavilion

For this first part, we went to the famous Phraya Nakhon cave where the royal pavilion is located, built for the visit of King Rama V who came to visit these places (and left his signature on a facade of the cave).

Renting bamboo as a walking stick, 20 baht, anything goes to make some money... but it's not obligatory.

Early in the morning the light is apparently (according to the postcards) superb.

If you actually go around the place you can come across this at the bottom, the "crocodile" rock.

Reverse path.

The beginning is always easy, in this sense it is in this case the end since here I am back at the bottom after 15 minutes and my knees are mush.
